Hi folks,

Looking for the best deal on a ps3. Does anyone know where to get the best price on one? Looking for the 80Gb version that will work in the US, so most likely the japan model. Please let me know what else is included in the price. Also specific store recommendations welcomed. I know i can find it at places like fortress but was looking for specific shop recommendations in golden computer, mongkok, etc. Thanks in advance!

I think the japanese version of PS3 will not be able to play US version games, as like the PS1 and PS2, you will probably need to get it modded which voids the warranty, I have not heard of a mod for PS3 but then, I do not own a PS3

Just letting you know, might want to look in to this before lugging one back to the states.

Hi, there is no region protection for PS3 games (only for some Blu-Ray movies), you can play US games on jap console, even play euro games on US ps3... But japanese model is not so easy to find, and there is no difference anymore between jap or hk model..
I might recommend to buy an HK version PS3 in the 188 mall (wanchai).
You can also find some good price on yahoo auctions..

The games are not region protected, but added content IS, so be careful if you plan to buy HK version of let's say Call of Duty or Warhawk and download the maps when you are in States - you can only download it from HK store (which is still possible though, but needs a bit of play with double/triple account registering - with credit cards with billing address in that specific country).
I am in a situation like that myself - I have HK console and brought a US game from eBay. Game plays smoothly, but when I tried to download add-on - it wouldn't work and I need US version of the addon. And to download from US PS Store, I need a credit card with billing address in US - silly, huh. Sony makes trouble when I want to give them my money.
Response from their customer service was basically - I need either buy HK version of the game (again?) or download the content from US store - no other way.
