Great that you have the opportunity to study abroad, and agree, having all of that space and freedom to breath, really broadens your experience base.

NZed is like that though, in many ways I regard it as a whole country based on Victoria in Aus lol, or Melbourne being a bit of an extension of Nzed, suprizingly similar in many visual/societal aspects.

I miss that pure "freshness" in food produce, restaurants that ethically wouldnt dare use MSG, long scenic " WRX drivers roads", Dad's® pies and a properly expressed coffee .

You'll like Wellie, especially if you love coffee, New Zealands best cafe is located there, Fidels, ( one of the best in the world ), in charismatically vibrant Cuba Street, being a uni student, you'll get to know that area quiet well. Not to mention, Oriental Bay, scenery thats postcard perfect.

Man, it would be excellent to be in Nzed after the new year, but due to work schedule , we won't be heading home to visit the reli's this festive holiday.

Yeah, they have a couple of English stations in HK, and its the local music I am most disgusted with lol. Beijing blows HK away for musical depth and variety, the heavy metal/hard rock scene is huge there. Bands are so much more experimental in PEK, much like how they are back home.

Maybe having access to space to reherse is the main issue, HK is a bit mean spirited in that regard, space = $$$. Bands that start out, rely heavilly on a bit of charity in the begining, until they can make enough money to remain viable.

Cheers

yeah it is a great opportunity and i thank my parents for sending me abroad to have a brighter future.

i love wellington, can't even wait to move next year... lol and i do love coffee. .i agree, fidels have really good food and coffee (Havana - I think the same people that own Fidels, own Havana coffee roasters, not sure though. Kinda figures…). wellington is such a great city, from the atmosphere, the people and the food and don't forget the coffee its perfect!

i miss my friends, and the good coffee in NZ.... theres hardly any good cafes here in hong kong.

it's so boring in here, i don't understand how can teenagers enjoy their lives in here! theres nothing to do and it seems like they go to school 24-7... what do teenagers do in here after school??

you should get an off from work and visit NZ and u must visit in 2011 bec. its the rugby world cup! lol ur missing a lot of things...

Paul sold Fidels Cafe, he decided to concentrate on his Havana coffee business, but from what I have heard, fidels still remains as great as its always been famed. I loved the eclectic outdoor courtyard, of fidels. Very, very cool atmosphere.

I agree with everything you say, Wellie definately exudes a dynamic vibrancy, but it can get damn windy lol.

Low commercial rents allow great cafe's like this to survive, even though the original owners purchased the property, and the hair salon next door to it. Rent for a location like this wouldnt be more than $4000NZ a month, makes a HK cafe paying between $15,000 - $35,000 NZ per month, a pretty daunting prospect, and why 99% of them fail within 12 months of opening..

Ha ha a little off topic, but a little trivia never hurt anyone.

NZ is pretty cool, I should stop referring to it as East Tasmania. I spent more time there over the past five years than I have in my hometown of Melbourne. Loved the music scene coming across to Melbourne in the 80's. Some cool films too, topped of by The Quiet Earth and Good Bye Pork Pie.
Wellington is home to one of the best book shops on the planet, Utopia Books.

Bic Runga: Winning Arrow.

Neil Finn plays a few instruments on this recording. Nice working session band synergy.

A song off Liams " I'll be lightning " CD.

The very musically gifted Liam Finn ( who is a Melbournian ), Neil and Sharons sprog, who is all grown up now. He quite often has Eliza-Jane Barnes ( Jimmy's daughter ) perform with him either on stage or in Neils Auckland Studio. Very much doing his own thing, he's even got the 70's Beatles beard look happening. A real Bohemian type.

If you listen toward the last 50 seconds of ther song you can hear Neil Finns signature guitar playing, unmistakably crowded house.

Neil can actually be seen playing in the studio with Liam in thsi clip here and there.

Definitely got the Finn family chorus signature sound, nice fusion of ideas, without sounding entirely like a crowded house or split enz song, Liams got skills.

This must be one of the very last live performances before Paul Hesters death ( Drummer of Split Enz, crowded house and Finn Brothers ).

RIP Pauly
