visas

i intend to travel to mainland china next april.i will travel on a tourist visa along with my chinese wife who has uk passport too.is it easy to extend a tourist visa and then apply for residency as we intend living in china. we have family there?we have beeen told it is easier to do this when we are in china rather than apply for residency in london before we go.

I really think you need to ask this question in a mainland Chinese board, not a Hong Kong one. They are completely different countries as far as visa and immigration rules are concerned.
