Thumbs up Future MTR Network Map

Has anyone seen this map of the future train network to take place after the MTR - KCR merger coming 2nd of December?

Curious to hear what people think of this map. What are you excited about happening on 'your' line, and what new connections are you excited about.

The extension of the Island line west of Shueng Wan will happen. The connection of KCR West with KCR East (nam cheong to TST east) is expected to be done by 2009. But the rest is just speculation and fantasy by metro buffs and railway fans. The Happy Valley line, for example, is a pipe dream.

One thing they should have done eons ago was to have a spur line from Wanchai to HKCEC. About the same length as the Disneyland line, and sure to be more used.

real estate

I wonder what these new lines would do to real estate prices. I know the extension to Lok Ma Chau recently did boost the property market in Sheung Shui for example.

Property prices have already been factored in. The south island line has been rumored for the last decade or so ... lets see when it actually shows up.

The cheeky developers at BelAir (cyberport) were marketing their property with MTR signs along the road (4 or 5 years ago)

Seen maps like this one around a lot. Rumors like this go around but these are not under construction yet and in some cases not planned. Kowloon Southern Link, Tseung Kwan O extension, Sha Tin to Central Link and a possible stop between Sheung Shui and Lok Ma Chau and Island East Extension are the only projects that are pretty much good to go.

Sheung Shui to Lok Ma Chau is 'finished and operational'.

The south east line is a reality. I think 2012 is the date they're trying for.

Lok Ma Chau - large border

Actually, let me say that the new Lok Ma Chau border crossing by train via Sheung Shui is the largest border I have been to for going from Hong Kong to Shenzhen. It is much bigger then LoWu and connects to the Metro on the other side in Shenzhen similar to LoWu.

If you would like to avoid the lines associated with LoWu, take the new Lok Ma Chau border, I went there a few weeks after it was open and this large building felt almost deserted. I feel it is certainly put there with 'future' in mind, it could be a large shopping center in 40 years with the train station built in, no problem.

You're really so much better at verbal diarrhoea than comprehension aren't you? Try reading again what was written.
