Krad - did you see the number of people they (Regina Ip's camp) had canvassing the people on the streets?

Read somewhere that they were also aggressively calling their supporters up and reminding them to vote.

On the other hand... barely saw any sign of life from Anson's campaign.

Mrs Chan's people outnumbered Mrs Ip's by some margin on the way up the escalator at about 8pm yesterday evening...

And there was even a gwaipo in the FCC bar in a (7) campaign sweatshirt!

I did, and I'm still disappointed that so many people can be still be swayed by someone with a megaphone.

PDLM - Must have been very specific then ... hardly saw them around the Pokfulam area and eastern mid levels while we were there...

I'm surprised the 'Standard' almost guessed the number of votes necessary for Anson to win: in the Sat/Sun issue it was stated that turn-out would be the deciding factor since the pro-Beijing camp would churn out about 140,000 votes for Regina and thus, Anson would need xyz % voter turn-out to win. Turn-out was high (> 50%) and with the benefit of hindsight, 140,000 was about the number of votes Anson needed to beat Regina (although it turns out she got an extra 35,000 more votes than that). How come one can guess the number of pro-Beijing voters so accurately but not those of the pan-Democrats?

No Democracy Just Beauty Contest

It was a beauty contest and the ugliest lost. Face it, there will NEVER be democracy in Hong Kong. Except for the CE position, all political posts are DOA, and thanks to the British who could have made a difference before they tucked tail and ran, Hong Kong is headed for a future China city where Beijing will call the shots. But then again, that ain't as bad as you think.

So. modern history not your strong point , amongst other things then.

The Brits tried, tried and tried again. However Deng Xiaping said " f**k off and don't look back " and even if we had done everything YOU wanted, China would have changed it back on day one.

What in fact happened was compromise ( of sorts ) that would provide stability going forward. This safeguarded important factors of the HK economy like the HKeX.

For you Redwriter nothing short of it becoming a Right Wing US Republican stronghold would suffice. You truly are an advert for eunuchs.

Well I voted for Cecilia because I liked her platform. She lost of course, but it's pity she didn't get enough votes so as not to forfeit her deposit.

Hey, how come you know so much about Cecilia? Do you know her personally?

Sorry to disappoint you Boris, but I am Anti-America, and also Anti-British. And I guess that means I would never like your company. So keep up the good work.
