| | | Connections to film or television Hi Everyone,
I've started some discussions about acting in HK and have still been e-mailing, sending out resumes, and asking around about opportunities. I was wondering if there were any of you expats out there with some connections to film production companies or television stations. It seems like sometimes, that's the only way they are willing to talk to you and have you come in for an interview...
Thanks,

| | here is a link to the Dragon Dynasty website. It is the Asian arm of Weinstein now headed by expat Bey Logan. He has his personal email on there and may be able to give you some info.
Just a thought. http://www.dragondynasty.com/blog/
or perhaps you could speak to actor/writer/bald headed bloke Pete Spurrier at the following website http://blacksmithfilms.com/about.htm
(actually, his "hiker" books are great too...)

| | | I hope you are prepared for a difficult road. There is a very slim amount of work for non-Chinese speaking people in Hong Kong and most of it is extra work which does not pay great (about 1000 to 1500 a day). I have done enough of it over the years - I stopped because it was almost pointless.
Also possibly because my wife wanted me to get a proper job.
A westerner who speaks Chinese (which includes Pete, who is on my quiz team so you can mention my handle and say I suggested you contact him) or Brian Burrell who has a regular place every night on TVB in a sit com, has a chance.
But there is not that much work out there. Pete will certainly be able to suggest the right agencies to approach. The obvious one is Man Man who handles a lot of western extras.
One issue though is these days, you need a permanent ID card for most agencies. If you are not a perm, even on a working visa, it is not actually legal for you to be hired without permission from the immigration department and whilst that used to be overlooked, this has been clamped down on.
Worth a try and as someone who has been blown up, shot, and stabbed several times, I can say it is a lot of fun but you are going to have a hard job getting into things professionally.
Now if you want to do amateur work there are a few options - pop into the Fringe club and ask at the desks for contacts for some of the amateur groups that perform there.

Bey Logan is a reknowned Kung Fu cinema expert and has written a book called "Hong Kong Action Cinema" and Pete Spurrier has written a couple of good books called "The Leisurely Hikers guide to HK" and the "Serious Hikers Guide to HK". https://www.formasiabooks.com/asp/Bo....asp?bookid=31

| | | If you want to get into the amateur scene here, I can help you out. Can't help you with the TV contacts though, unfortunately. | |

| | | Thanks so much for the concern. I really do appreciate it. Actually, both my parents are from Hong Kong and I speak pretty fluent cantonese. I'm currently taking some Chinese classes so that I can learn how to read the language : )
I graduated from university not so long ago, and did a fair share of drama classes and productions. I came to HK to work and in hopes to pursue this thing. Know it's going to be quite difficult, so I'm doing all that I can to get some networking...so if you guys happen to have anything other information/connections, please do let me know.
Again, thanks so much for all the suggestions. | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 01:42 AM.
