I think this is a respectable part of Buddhism, rather noble. Feel free to discuss various parts of your faith, just because I who started this thread am a Christian it was put here for everyone. The comments of course will most likely reflect the ideas and thoughts of those reflected in the poll.

The Bible verse I gave before in my last post does mandate some form of telling news and that people will come and follow Christ because of that news. As you saw from the Catholic who came to your school, and also from those knocking on your door there are different ways, some which give information to many and while present truth don't wake you up at early hours in the morning *he he*. A Christian will believe there is one way to God, that it is a narrow road, but if you have not come to that position then I know no amount of pressure will entice you because the heart cannot rejoice over what the head rejects.

Jehovah's Witness, the majority of their beliefs actually pre-date back to Arius who's teachings were in the early part of Christianity put away as false. History always repeats itself, nothing is new.

There are more Jedi's here then Buddhists, interesting.

Curious to see what people make of this video.

Watch The Australia Network tonight at 10pm (Channel 541 on Now TV) for "A War on Science". It details a court case in the USA recently about Darwins Theory Vs Intelligent Design. Makes for interesting viewing.

let me get this right. you actually believe that the ark existed? like literally true and not a morality story? because, tolerance or not, that would have to be a conversation ender right there.

on the tv show tonight: I never knew that evolution was actually banned from US classrooms until so recent. It really does explain a lot. I think we can have more hope in the younger generation in the states who have been allowed to study an alternative to fictional book based creationism.

Indeed - I think the, er, fundamental problem is that most of the extreme religious types don't understand how utterly insane some of their beliefs are to rational people.

What's even more frightening is that when the Republican candidates for the office of President of the United States were on a televised debate back in May and were asked for a show of hands as to how many did NOT believe in evolution, 3 of the 10 men raised their hands.

That's FRIGHTENING.

Don't get me wrong- the Bible has alot of good stuff in it but it was written by men and it shows. The stories in it are PARABLES. And some of the stuff in there is downright sick. Unless, of course, you believe that it's okay to steal, rape and murder:

Deuteronomy 20:10-14 :
As you approach a town to attack it, first offer it's people terms for peace. If they accept your terms and open the gates to you, then all the people inside will serve you in forced labor. But if they refuse to make peace and prepare to fight, you must attack the town. When the LORD your God hands it over to you, kill every man in the town. But you may keep for yourselves all the women, children, livestock, and other plunder. You may enjoy the spoils of your enemies that the LORD your God has given you.

Boy, what a mess we're in since Eve was fooled into listening to that wily TALKING SNAKE.......

I find rational arguments against God/religion completely futile. The basis of most semitic religions at least is faith. Which basically means the whole idea of the religion is unquestioned observance.

I haven't read the entire thread but I suppose there is some religious loon posting away, to draw people out so much. Just thinking how in the face of this onslaught of rational posts he probably thinks himself a martyr/defender of the faith and so on gives me a chuckle.

I have no problems with these guys..my only issue is that too many of them believe that the reason to be righteous/ moral is because a giant fairy has told them to do so . As if that isn't the natural thing for a human being to be. The logical extension of this, that in the name of this fairy they can be unrighteous/immoral because the end would justify it and give the fairy a warm glow.

I would say they needed some evolving to do if they only believed in evolution.....

Yes and no, but lets create an atmosphere where those of other religious backgrounds can talk freely about their beliefs. The poll speaks for itself of who the majority is, of course there will be tension between those who can accept the supernatural and those who's presuppositions disallow for it.

Thumbs up

I don't think there is anyone who sums up religion of all denominations better than, Melbournes, John Safran.

This Morman video is hillarious.

This video, even though its loosely based on Jewish religion, but man its so funny...

Ha Ha the Pope vs the Dalai Lama, this will suprize Dean the most.

Check John Safrans other videos, he looks at most religions, even pokes a bit of fun at his own, as a non practising Jew, ie turned atheist
