| | | CV Length for HK? Hi all,
As an experienced IT guy with a fair amount of international experience, I would like to know what the standard is in HK for Resumes/CVs? E.g., How long are they? My usual is about 6-7 pages. Is that too long?
I will be applying for work over the Internet as well as coming over there for a few months to circulate it.
Any pointers as to how I should approach CV writing for HK is appreciated.
Thanks | |

| | | TCP, I've received 6-7 page CV's before and to be honest, they turn me off. Everyone's case is unique, but I would prefer to have the key relevant items highlighted, and not every position held since graduation is necessary to be included. For IT especially, qualifications (CCIE, etc., as opposed to experience) are highly regarded but they're also very common in HK. If you have got the experience to back them up, you could have a very powerful combination. Good luck! | |

| | | Hire a professional resume editor to cut your CV down to a 2-3 of pages and offer excruciating detail online or offer to email the long version? | |

| | | Thanks for your input. Also, What about the following with respect to HK:
1) references (required?) if so how many?
2) personal details required (age, location, sex, race, etc)?
3) photo?
4) normally I ignore requests for expected salary, but HK may be different?
5) format when not specified? Some countries don't mind Word... others ASCII is expected. (for email applications)
6) your opinion about general tone of cover letters read by chinese? humble, respectfull, aggressive, or just apply the usual common sense apporopriate to the position as anywhere?
7) other asian countries I've worked in like to know a bit more about YOU as a person. With respect to this, would personal interests, leisure activities be an appropriate inclusion?
I'm really pushing 2-3 pages.
Thanks for your assistance.

| | | 1). References -- Usefull, at least one or two
2). Personal Details -- No need
3). Photo -- No need
4). Expected salary -- Usually required in HK
5). Format -- Word should be fine
6). Cover letter -- Apply the usual common sense........ wrapped up in polished english would be advantageous.
7). Personal Interest, Extra Curr Activity, Hobbies -- No body cares, i guess
As far as i have seen, IT resume mainly focuses on tech skills and emphasis on exposure to variety of projects/ platforms etc. with bare personal info.

| | | Close to what Nivantj says:
1. Available upon request
6. This is where I find many local cv's fail, this and the follow up thank you letter - the former it's so uncommon to come across a well written one, the latter it's so uncommon to come across one period! If nothing else it will help you stick out from the crowd. Use common sense and no need to be humble, be assured the others won't be !
7. Only if they are really interesting. | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 01:21 PM.
