| | | Short Selling Is short selling in Hong Kong available to retail investors? Or only typically to institutions?
If possible, which banks or securities firms do this and at what cost?

| | | i thought it is if you go thru a proper broker instead of the run of the mill bank brokers.
for one i am very sure singapore broking houses offer short selling facilities to singapore clients on hk stocks. not all the stocks are shortable (only big liquid names) and you do have to borrow or prove you have full delivery of stocks before you can short.
check around for the more established broking houses. you can try philips securities in hk, i think their biz model wld be similar to singapore's.

| | go check under www.poems.com.hk
under the chinese page local products, you can see short selling if you know how to read chinese. sorry but not sure why they did not do the english version. if you need a broker from there i can help u get one thru the sg branch heads.

| | | Thanks PDLM and Freeir.
Freeir, I like the idea of a broker in Singapore because they can speak proper English - have had difficulty explaining which local brokers. Can you provide a referral?

| | | hmm.. that wasn't what i actually meant. it would be kind of complicated to have actually a singaporean broking account because all your money and cash would be quite tough to move around. not that undoable though (my wife does buy and sell hk shares quite often thru her sg account, but we do have accounts at both countries to facilitate the funds transfer).
let me see if i can find someone in philip HK that can speak decent english for you.

| | | I am a Singaporean and have a trading account in DaoHeng. I will be interested to do POEMS with I can transfer between Singapore and HK, don't think I will have problem getting both account set up. How does this work? How much does the transfer cost? (I look at the fees for share transaction, looks comparable with DH and cheaper than the bank).
PS How is the connection to their website? Seems a bit slow (compare with DH)
