Nintendo Wii - Help or advice appreciated

Afternoon all from the sunny Isle of Man. This is probably shot in the dark but a relapsed expat colleague recommended I give you chaps a shot to see if anyone can help steer me in the right direction.

Please bear with me a little here as I’m a blank canvas when it comes to these things.

We are desperately looking for a Nintendo Wii for our 6 year old lad’s Christmas present and every local and UK online retailer is completely sold out. Boots had a shipment arrive today and it went in 10 minutes flat. I’m fairly conscious of the time and judging by the desperation on ebay at the moment I suspect we are going to have to pay £100+ over the RRP without warranty.

My esteemed colleague recommended getting a console from either Hong Kong or Singapore as they are the same UK spec, PAL and use the same mains adapters. First of all and apologies for the ignorance of this question is this correct?

Secondly does anyone know where I can order a console and a few games online from HK? I’ve scoured a few online retailers but they only appear to have US or Japanese stock in at present.

Many thanks in advance!

Regards

Steve

Gatts will become famous soon enough
Sorry to break the news: There are no official HK region Wii's out, but all the Wii's regularly available here are either US or Japan region imports.

While there is an official Singapore Wii, it's the same region as the US ones. In practice this means that either a HK or Singapore bought Wii will not be able to play any UK wii discs. (legally speaking)

Should you buy a modchipped Wii, it will play any region or burned DVD-R disc, but there's the risk of Nintendo locking your console when you go online with it.

Gatts you are an absolute gent. Thanks for the quick reply.

Looks like I'll have to tough it out for a Uk spec model.

Kind Regards

Adam

HKNewBi has a little shameless behaviour in the past
Hello Adam

I can't see a 6 year old requiring online play. My 8 year old hasn't wanted to use this facility. Maybe if your lad has a friend with one online and they want to hook up?

That said my Wii is modded and works on line.

I would get a modded HK Wii shipped across to UK and use that.

My TV is multi region so I am not sure if it is PAL but has a UK style plug. All menus etc are in English.

If you have a multi region TV then this would not be an issue.

Thanks folks, can anyone recommend any online stores that will ship back over to Blighty?

The old Google throws up a few but a personal recommendation always helps.
