May I have an opinion please

Please can I ask for opinions on this site from a professional business perspective and from a design perspective. I don't want to influence opinions at all by saying why or what I think - but I'd really value any thoughts - pls also look further than just the front page. Thanx

Immediate thoughts:

The photo's on the home page do not lead my eyes to read the written text. I found the various sizes of the photo's to be a turn-off....making me disinterested

The description on the management page seems longwinded .... too much text for vertical presentation...may be better if pics on left side with text next to in a horizontal ..

the web address should be more catching.

Text (font) doesn;t draw your attn immediately to the text.

Left hand side of page does look a bit bland and blank. Fill in all the way down.

Photo's not as eye catching and background clour could be a a bit better.

It is okay, but there is not much here you can't do with a simple blog. Here is a design blog I have for some of my design work. I post it because it is a simple blogger blog.

For the front page I would probably focus on design and very bare information with a menu. I would put a page like your main page somewhere like a gallery page, news page, etc. The overall image I don't find amazingly professional. (But I am one of those picky graphic designer types).

By the way, was ROB-B-HOOD a good movie?

Alexander Crowe is on a distinguished road
page 1:

October 12,2007 Jackie Chan received the "Most Influential Awaed for Chinese Kung Fu"

Jackie's Film - surely that should be films?

Newsroom page:

Jackie visited with the athletes before the ceremony and when the festivities began, he led the audience in a rousing cheer of "Ni Hao!" (Chinese for "Hello!)

just 'visited the athletes', + missing speech marks to close "Hello!"

Jackie Chan's Portfolio page:
in the 'Film Works' cloumn, the film titles under the thumbnails are all in different fonts
+ why 'Film Works' not just 'Film Work'? - it isn't incorrect, but stands out when next to 'Charity Work' - either have both in the singular or both in the plural.

Management page:

Sun Yuan Nong began her production career in 1982 wherein she co-produced TV and movies with Hong Kong entertainment companies such as TVB, ATV and CTN. In Beijing, she established a production company in 1990,” Yuan Nong Studio” was its name.

(extra space)

Her primary business was doing production work in mainland China that was exported to other countries in Southeast Asia.

(primary business was production work, don't need 'doing')

(extra space before 'She...')

She set up a new production company in Beijing called “Beijing Dragon House Production Co, Ltd” in 1999 and began to work exclusively for Jackie Chan.

(extra space before 'In January...')

In January of 2007, Yuan Nong became Jackie Chan’s manager in Mainland China.
Yuan Nong has relationships with top producers and directors throughout Asia.

(extra space before 'Her production...')

Her production work includes credits both in film and TV. Yuan Nong was born in Beijing and works between China and the United States.

(+standardize the font for this text block)

..............................
***actually it seems that there is an extra space preceding many sentences on this page***
..............................

I agree with the above post, the vertical format isn't easy to read!

Carrie Wang
Chief Executive Officer, JC Culture USA

Carrie Wang is the Chief Executive Officer of JC Culture USA. She oversees contract negotiations and press releases for JCCUSA and JCCCHINA. Carrie has contributed over ten years of marketing management experience from serving management roles at Grand Overseas Economy Development Co., and Blue Jacket Trader Pty, Ltd.

(would say 'Carrie has over ten years of marketing management experience...')

While at Grand Overseas Economy Development Company, Carrie led Asian expansion operations, setting up sales and marketing operations, consequently enabling the company's success throughout Asia. As Marketing Director at Blue Jacket Trader Pty, Ltd., Carrie opened a trading contract with the Shandong Province and increased company revenue annually by $5 million USD. Carrie was the first person to produce a concert in Taiwan (2006) for CCTV-4, an International channel.

('for the international channel CCTV-4')

The event celebrated the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival and had a viewership greater than 700 million.

(viewership = audience)
= The event celebrated the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival, and had an audience exceeding 700 million viewers.'

Following the success of that concert, she then created and produced a concert celebrating the Chinese New Year. This was a groundbreaking production for both American and Chinese artists. It combined the top artists from Hong Kong (Jackie Chan), Taiwan (A-Mei), Mainland China (Lee Yu Chun) and America (Kanye West and Gnarls Barkley).

('Combining top artists from..., the concert')

The concert, “Fusion”, was broadcast nationally throughout China on Hunan TV on February 28th, 2007 to a viewership greater than 600 million.

(viewership = audience)

The press in China has ranked it as one of the top ten most influential concerts ever broadcast in China. Carrie is from Beijing and graduated from Beijing Foreign Language University.

....

David McKeon column:

'states' = 'States'
'viewership' = 'audience'

... He also was the co-creator and executive-producer for a concert celebrating the Chinese New Year: February 13th and 14th, 2007, at the Aladdin Hotel and Casino (now Planet Hollywood), marked the first ever co-production between Chinese and American artists in Las Vegas for broadcast in China. The concert was aired on Hunan TV February 28, 2007 to a viewership (of) over 600 million. David now works for JC Culture USA, and is responsible for its development in America.

He travels between America and China to meet government and business leaders to negotiate media contracts.
= He travels between America and China, meeting government and business leaders to negotiate media contracts.

...

the text doesn't sit comfortably on the background - the horizontal strips interfere.

agree with the font not drawing attention much..
you might wanna have a uniform image size as well..as well as the left side being too blank..maybe you could put like counters on how many times the site was visited or sneak peaks into some articles..

the header/banner is a lil eye catchy but i think its bec of the sequence of the jackie chan photos..it looks a bit pasted together though, maybe if the jackie chan sequence was blended (sorry forgot the term) in to US background..

overall for design i think its ok..its a very neat and simple page.

@deandzai
love the business cards, robbhood is ok i mean not a core shaking movie but it is funny

i miss graphic design

BTW I didn't design the page. Just wanted unbiased opinions.

My questions revolved around the overall impression created by the site - typos and all, $3.99 pm webhosting (click on the logo at the bottom) considering it's an LA based setup aimed at fostering more productions in China. With image being everything - I thought it sent the wrong msg on a number of levels.

Can any of you put your finger on the problem?

THANKS for all the interesting input and effort! As always you guys go above and beyond!

Now is there any polite and inoffensive way of offering some unsolicited but well-intentioned criticism? At very least to point out the typos bearing in mind it was probably written by some one for whom English isn't their 1st language.
