I'm moving to HK in Feb, looking for 1 bedroom apt in HK island. Work in area called "Taikoo". Can I afford a decent apt while paying around 10-12K & commuting time not over 30 mins.

I think you might find housing in or around the Taikoo area within that price range.

I just arrived here 3 weeks ago and found a place the first week just over that price range for a 2 bedroom place. But be prepared for the room size shock. Tai Koo is on the MTR (subway line), so you should find something within a 30 minute commute. Good luck.

if you can commute by taxi (10 minutes, hkd 50 each way) then i think island resort would be tough to beat. sea view, club house, and new.

10-12k will get you an 2-bedroom 600 sq ft apartment.

if you want to live closer (e.g. at taikoo shing - walking distance to work) expect to pay 20-60% more for the same sq footage, poorer view, and in much older buildings with ~0 facilities.

or consider the Grande Promenade, newer than Island Resort, also with club house and sea view, and commute only about HKD 20 one way, but also 40-60% more.
