Trailwalker - staying awake!

Okay, I am all excited about the Trailwalker on November 9th. Our team's target is 1 day and we've been training reasonable well to get there.

My question - after walking 1 night w/o sleeping, what are the best ways to keep awake and continue hiking the next day? Red bull? Ginger candy?

Couple of other tips for the participants:

- Reduce resting time
- Wear Boxer shorts otherwise you'll end up with painful marks you-know-where
- Change your socks after each stage to avoid blisters
- Cut your toe nails before the walk

why would you WANT to stay awake. I have done the walk before and after losing about 3kg in weight (and I ate aand drank water continuously the whole time ) my body was in need of some serious rest. I can't see the point in stressing your body any more than you need to.

In my opinion, WIRED X 3000 and especially X 5000 ( where available ) is the at the top of the legally obtainable energy drinks, it is considerably more effective than Redbull's poofy 1800mg of Taurine.

3000mg or 4400mg of Taurine, and you are seriously wired within about 10 minutes of ingesting a can, the name certainly fits this product. The effects are much more noticeable than Redbull, and for applications where maintaining concentration for long durations, increasing staminal performance, this is the energy drink that works best.

Gold Coast Welcome stock it, so I would imagine, all of the supermarkets in the expat enclaves, will carry Wired too. It's also better value than RedBull, selling for under $12.00 for a 473ml can ...

It doesn't work as well as Red Bull IMO. Doesn't have enough caffeine to get me where I want to be

Ummm that is only your personal opinion, as Redbull only has 80mg of Caffeine in a standard can.

Wired has 188mg of caffeine in a can of X -3000.

Whats "factually" in Wired X 3000 below.

3000 mg Taurine
188 mg Caffeine
100 mg Inositol
500% RDI Vitamin B6
200% RDI Vitamin B3
160% RDI Vitamin B12
100% RDI Vitamin B5

1. wear kneecaps, especially between sections 3 & 4 (if i remember correctly) there are a lot of up and down slopes.
2. wear double socks. a thin pair first then a thick pair. this way can reduce friction and protect ur feet.
3. put vaseline onto ur toes then maybe also put bandaids on every toes (not kidding, many experienced trailwalkers do this). this can reduce friction between toes after u sweat a lot. try to imagine how painful it would be if there were blisters on ur toes when walking 100km!

good luck on trailwalker!

thanks guys

thanks a lot for the tips guys!

I will remember the double socks and bandaids for sure. Each blister makes walking exponentially difficult.

Cheers.

Thanks for the advice and the ingredients list for the drinks. Interesting that the Wired X3000 has more caffeine than Red Bull. It doesn't work as well for me. That X505 does look pretty potent

Never heard the Vaseline and bandaid thing, but it makes sense. I remember making the mistake of hiking in steel-toed Doc Martens when I was a teen. I got 5 bruised toenails. Not the smartest thing I've ever done.

This could be exceptionally bad advice for a first time walker. Boxers can lead to chafing in very... sensitive... areas over longer distances. Many hikers who have experienced this wear tight fitting lycra or use Vaseline.

When this thread was originally started, it was only a week before Trailwalker. Assuming that you've been training properly and know your body and its reaction to hiking, food and fluid intake, now is not the time to be messing with new variables like massive caffeine boosts. Stick to what has worked so far. And good luck on the day!
