Thumbs down Food Service Industry in HK

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum. Nice place you have here!

I spent a few weeks in HK very recently and loved every minute! On my leisure trip, I couldn't help but notice the huge variety of food service establishments. As an Executive Chef from the New York City area, USA, I wonder what would the chances be for me to grab employment in HK. Currently, I'm researching a number of things, as well as reading all of the helpful posts on this board.

Is the business as lucrative in HK as it is here in the states? Is it common for a company to recruit a chef from overseas?

Just a couple of questions, but I'm sure I'll have some more!

Thanks

Depends on your immigration status in the Hong Kong SAR as well as if you are an Executive Chef in Mcdonalds or the Ritz Carlton.

Post a few more details in order to get a better picture please.

ronsby is an unknown quantity at this point.
We can observe that those successful franchise companies in the dining industry eg. McDonlad, KFC, etc. are all showing customers a consistent brand image by offering standardised product and service, continuous marketing activities, and most importantly, these companies provide their franchisees with professional and comprehensive training and after contract assistances. In this regard, I doubt if an Executive Chef is in need for franchise restaurant eg. McDonald.

The economic outlook is positive. Therefore the business in retail, food & entertainment, property industries, etc. are going up. There is a demand for expatriate staff in any industry.

McDonalds, eh? Hardly.

Currently, I'm working in corporate dining in New York City for a financial firm. My experience, however, lead me through many different areas to the F&B business such as private fine dining (restaurant), corporate and private catering, institutional, entertainment venues, high volume production, as well as retail concepts. I've been doing this a while...over 15 years or so.

As far as my work visa, I would need to be sponsered.

I have a connection or two at Compass Group, who has many corporate and catering accounts in HK. I've not contacted them yet, as I'm just checking the climate of the industry in HK.
