Income Tax

Hi, can anyone advice how the income tax computation works for expatriate in Hong Kong. Appreciate your contribution.

tax is the same for all, there is no tax just for expats! The HK govt website has all you need to know on the subject of tax plus a handy calculator

David, thx for your reply. What is the difference between Salaries Tax and Personal Assessment?

Presumably, Im paid 40000HKD/month and give a housing allowance of 10000HKD/month but only used up 8000HKD/month, what will be the tax computation like for the housing part?

Taxation of housing benefits: http://www.ird.gov.hk/eng/pdf/pam44e.pdf

Essentially, assuming that your employee maintains records of your rental payment and a copy of your lease and makes the appropriate returns to IRD then you will be deemed to have a taxable income of HKD46,200 a month.

There is absolutely no distinction in the HK tax regime on immigration status. Every resident of Hong Kong gets taxed according to the same rules.

DavidHK said this in his post above. Why do you find it difficult to understand?
