By my own admission, anyone would be a fool to get bus route information from ME, but during my stays in HK, I've found their bus and train system to be approachable even by those who don't read chinese. It WILL help to familiarize yourself with some of the more significant geographical bulletpoints of HK though... like knowing the various districts in relation to each other, and major arterial roads.
In the past year or so,
Google Maps has done a fairly decent job at fleshing out HK.
Prepared with this info, you can use the
HKIA bus route page.
In addition, you can try the
CityBus Route Search page.
Populate the fields thusly:
Origin
District: Northern Lantau & Airport
Area: Airport Passenger Terminal
Destination
District: Yau Tsim Mong District
Area: Mong Kok South / MTR Mong Kok Station
For the resulting bus route, just cross-reference the stops it makes with proximity to your destination.
My own process goes something like this:
Fly into Lantau HKIA, grab my luggage (manageable pieces that won't require a cart -- while busses have luggage storage racks inside, you're better off hailing a taxi if your baggage count is excessive)
I don't recall there being any, but if the airport has a kiosk that dispenses prepaid Octopus Cards, it'll come in handy for busses and trains.
Find the airport ramp walkway that leads down to the ground-level bus terminals.
Each stop has clear signage for bus numbers.
In my case, I hop onto the E21 bus. It's half the price of most other routes, but that's because it's meant for airport workers. That particular bus will make extra stops looping past the cargo buildings and administrative offices before heading into Kowloon.
Here's a thought.. why not contact your Stanford Hotel and ask THEM what bus route would be best from the airport?
