Get Away from the City Noise

Tired of all the city noise and crowds? Take a short ferry trip to Park Island, or Ma Wan Island, and visit Ma Wan Park. It is free. You can enjoy a nature park, a beautiful waterfall, and on clear days, a great view from the hilltop lookout. Animals are not allowed, so leave them home. No food is available in the park except for a few snacks sold at the Hilltop. There are a lot of No's, but the views and silence are all Do's.

Take the Park Island ferry from Pier 2. Also, look around the island and enjoy a wonderfully cheap afternoon.

There is also a small beach with good facilities.

A map to Ma Wan Park will cost $5, but worth it.

Enjoy a hidden part of Hong Kong.

My wife and I went Sunday and we were very pleased with the experience.

You're new here aren't you?

40% of Hong Kong is country park. There's really no shortage of places to go to get away from the city noise, even on Hong Kong Island (try Dragon's Back on a weekday for example, or up on top of Mount Butler).

And it's bizarre that you make such a post when claiming to be in DB - just walk out your back door and up on the hills - you can't get much more away from it than up on top of Sunset Peak.

Eh? A quick look at your posting history tells me that I haven't posted at all in most of the threads that you have...

PDLM, sorry to disturb you. I have lived in Hong Kong since 2001. I just wanted to share a place with people new to the area, and many do not go to the county parks, so just tried to be of some help. Not everyone lives in DB, so they can visit anytime and walk up the mountains.

Getting into a country park is dead easy. The hard part is to how to spend a day hiking without coming across at least three people carrying transistor radios blaring news or opera

I don't get it, redwriter ? You live in Discovery Bay, about as naturalistic and lovely a location as one could possibly hope for, and along the same topographia as Sai Kung, Pak Tam, Hebe Haven, Skek O and Clear Water Bay, even some parts of Castle Peak bay.... And you're reacting as if its the first bit of natural land you've seen since being out at sea for a year....?

It is weird, if you live in Disco Bay, like you promote that you do, Park Island wouldnt even rate a casting thought.

And Carang is right, like her, 1000's of people converge on our neighbourhood, and most other country parks on the weekends, the locals of which I nick named the BBQ fork brigade, because they usually leave their discarded BBQ forks strewn around these natural area's.

Anyway, PDLM never states anything but the obvious, we've all slipped up and been reminded by him, so I wouldnt get all bent out of shape about it Redwriter....

Maybe venture down to B and Q, hire some power tools, purchase some lumber, some tech screw's, a good sturdy battery drill....Then ? Build a bridge and get over it.....

carang. if you have children, give Ma Wan Park a look. It is not what you think, there are flowers, waterfall, and playground for kids. Plenty of signs to tell you what species or flowers and plants are there, and easy walking on wooden steps and many kids there on past Sunday. Give it a look.
