HK Smart ID Card

Anybody who is holding a British passport and a HK id card has the experience of exchanging the smart ID card. I have been living in the UK for a couple of years and am wondering if there is any problem in getting the smart id card when I next go back to HK.

Thanks for that. I've heard that we need to declare our nationality. Just wondering whether there would be any difference if I say Britizen Citizen or others like BNO.

Are you originally HK Chinese? If so you declare Chinese -- and apply for a HKSAR passport on your next visit as well.

Yes I'm originally HK Chinese. May I ask why I need to apply for a HKSAR passport?

Slaw,
I dont think getting Smart ID has anything to do with HKSAR passport. Its a matter of your own choice whether you want to get HKSAR passport or still keep BNO/ British. In any case, you can replace old ID with Smart ID.

Wink Re:hk Smart Id Card

Hello SLAW,

I don't think there is any problem in getting a SMART ID card if you are born in HK, all you have to do is just claim yourself as HK Permanent resident and don't mention about your British passport. Let's just say that you can have a HKSAR passport, a BNO, a British passport, and a HKID card. It is not a problem and so you do not have to worry about anything.

I still have the old ID card, born and worked in UK all my life.Only been over to HK once in a while ie holidays etc. I have full HK residence rights ie as if I was born in HK. Now next month I will be coming over to HK using my ID instead of my british passport. I assume I will need to apply for the new ID card. But lets, say I forgot to do that within the 30 days, which can happen?

make sure you make an appointment. otherwise you will have to satisfy them that you were unable to renew your identity card. i believe they have got penalties ( payable in HK$) for these cases, if you aren't able to satisfy them.
