how long after you submitted the documents before you were contacted by the IMMD? a month?

I was contacted about two weeks after I sent in photocopies of all my documents. After that, I got a call asking me to come in for an interview and to bring in the actual copies of all the documents required.

ohh...mine is taking too long!

i submitted my application SEPT 10, 2007 personally in HK
(i was also informed that my ROA will be revoked as I've been away for more than 3years)

after 1 month, they mail me (outside HK) to submit further documents and they received requested documents OCT 27, 2007

until now, no news yet and its been over 3months. actually, i dont really mind having RTL status. I just want it to be finish already.
do you have an idea that it can also takes this long?

Long procedure

Hi,

I have given the IMD all my papers on 2nd Nov. 2007 and I still have no answer either.
I guess it depends on the officer who is handling your case.

But do not give up...at the end you will get your answer

Good luck,

Lilian

I assume you have been chasing this with immigration? A visit to wanchai and speaking to a senior officer usually does the trick.

I had to do that last year when I was getting mine.

That's really strange. I have another CBC friend who got his permanent identity card twelve years ago but he never came back since May of last year so he was given the Right to land as well. He was only here for three weeks and now he has an ordinary HKID with "RO" on it just like me.

Is being a British Dependent Territory Citizen by descent borned before 1997 the only requirement to get RTL or should one have stayed in HK for 7 years too?

At least one of your parents have to be born in Hong Kong during colonial rule and be of Chinese descent. If they originally came from the mainland and later acquired ROA from seven years of residency, they were PRC citizens with permanent residency in Hong Kong and not BDTCs.
