Macau question

If one is a Hong Kong resident (not permanent), but holds a HK ID card and have a HK visa. Does a person need a passport to enter Macau? Or can this be done with the HK ID card?

My friend brought this up and I thought you don't need a passport if you have a Hong Kong ID.

It's still a separate country.

You only need an ID card to get to Lamma and Cheung Chau- maybe there's the confusion.

You don't need a passport if you have a HK Permanent ID Card (of any sort *** not necessary). You do need a passport if you are not a Permanent Resident.

More fully:

"e) The "Hong Kong Identity Card" (with symbol“*”, “***” or “R”), "Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card" or "Hong Kong Reentry Permit" holders may stay in Macau for a maximum period of one year."

(from http://www.gov.mo/egi/Portal/rkw/pub...7ad00d226ced8b )

Obviously the "R" referred to is not the letter of you HKID number - it is the indicator of "Right to Land".
