Masking tape - is it really so strange?

I'm in search of masking tape -- a tape that has proved elusive to me! I've found packing tape, scotch tape, double-sided sticky tape... but no masking tape. Any suggestions on where to find some?

I've tried a number of small shops around Wan Chai, Wing On, and Pricerite... I'm not sure where else to go. When I ask people in the shops for it, I get strange looks; when I describe it I get even stranger looks!

Any help greatly appreciated

I found masking tape in a stationery store in Tsingyi. I bought a couple of them when I was moving. Not sure if they are called masking tape here though. Just say big scotch tape or sticky tape. Maybe they might understand. That's how I explained to the shop assistant.

my husband is an architect and uses masking tape for drawing. You do mean the white papery one don't you? We found it in an art supply shop in Wanchai.

Any if not all paint supply shops sell masking tape, I must have atleast a dozen rolls in various widths, haha and one left over box of liquid nails tubes left over from when we renovated our apartment.

Lockhart Road in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay should have plenty of hardware/paint shops that sell masking tape in the prefered width.

I work in Wan Chai and you should have no problem buying masking tape. You can buy it in stationery stores (everywhere), hardware stores (many in Lockhart Road) and art suppliers (some examples already mentioned).

Of course, if you're asking for it in English, people may not know what you are talking about (it's not exactly a high frequency vocabulary item for English learners) but if you have a look around the shop, explain what you are looking for or get a friend to write it down in Chinese I'm sure you'll have no problem finding it.
