Hi! Student looking for more to do.

Hi,

Name's Kent, 22, from Washington D.C. Virginia Tech Student on exchange at HKU. I've been hanging out with a lot of the other exchange students, but they basically just do the same thing in perpetuity. Whenever there's nothing to do, it seems to be Lan Kwai Fong by default, where they proceed to get hammered, and I stand around and flirt with inebriated women until it quickly loses it's entertainment value and I walk home.

So, aside from that, what's to be done for fun? I don't care too much about the "touristy" stuff, looking for stuff beyond that. This is "Reading Week" which means a week off for vacation basically, and I'm just hanging around, already been to mainland, Macau, etc for trips. So what are some of ya up to? Let me know, I can probably play tag-along if invited.

audiodesign is an unknown quantity at this point.
Go check out the NBA basketball game at the Venetian on Oct. 20th. Cavs (Lebron James) versus Magic. Should be fun, as the casino as pretty awesome itself, never seen the arena yet.

Gonna be hard to get tickets for the game unless you're willing to deal with scalpers. From what I hear, it's pretty much sold out.

Have to agree with you about the Island LKF rhetoric that exists, it all becomes a bit bland and rote habitual after awhile, 3 times in our case ) lol.

If you want to do some cool stuff, organise a group outing on this board, I'll list a few idea's below.

Paragliding is an upcoming sport in HK, and definately worth taking a look at. Also considering its a very affordable thrill, and gets you out of the crowded built up concrete jungle. http://www.hkpa.net/

Another alternative to the above, is make a few enquiries at either the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, or the Aberbeen Yacht Club, list your name down there and become part of a crew. Its easy to learn basic deck experience, and there's plenty of British / Australian club members, so it should be easy enough to be an associate crew member, when the need for a full crew is required during club regatta's etc. Heres an advert from someone requiring a crew member here. http://www.rhkyc.org.hk/default.aspx?c=226

If you have no luck there, as the RHKYC can be a little on the snobby side, I am sure that the top blokes at http://www.hhyc.org.hk/ will give you a hand, but you are going to have an hour and a half commute from the island to Hebe Haven Yacht Club....

Last but not least, Lung Kwu Tan, on the dark side of the NT moon, has a very very good international out door bitumen go kart track, http://www.dckart.com/index.php?opti...tpage&Itemid=1

There's also plenty of beach activities like parasailing, jet skiing, beach BBQ area's, located very close to the track, for a big day out, you can't go wrong.

I can understand as well that the LKF scene can get boring after a while. Maybe try to meet more/different friends, ask others to bring along more ppl. I'm a student too at CUHK on exchange. I dunno... other than LKF, my friends and I like to go to a karaoke bar, go to the beach, have barbeques, hiking, etc.

i dunno why people sooooooooooo interest in LKF
exchange students should enjoy the life in HK
be more local.......or be a tourist, LKF is good place but not a place to go too frenquently.....

i am local, but i was exchange student to europe...

Hi! I'm new to this forum and... well, exactly, I'm a current student of HKU - I'm not actually an expat. I've been looking for language partners, but without much success. Indeed, I'm also new to the university, too, and... would be glad to know foreign students.

I have a lot to do this week (darn, mainly about assignments, as usual for young HK guys like me), but may be able to, for example, go hiking on holiday.

If you are interested, you may talk to me ....
