need work permit

Need help i've been applying to multipul places for a job all responses back are that they cannot hire with out a work permit. If I were to apply for a work visa I need to have a sponser (employer) correct?
One more question how long is the visa valid for?

Or if anyone has any connections with resturaunts and hotel that would be great. I am a chef by trade.

thank you very much

ronsby is an unknown quantity at this point.
Your employer will apply the working visa for you once you are employed. The period of the working visa largely depends on the tenure of your employment. Generally, it varies from a few months to a year or two.

Rubbish also - ronsby please would you stop answering immigration questions about which you obviously know very little.

ritchey,

Yes - an Employment Visa is linked to a specific employer. When you have the job offer then your (potential) employer can sponsor your application for an Employment Visa. On open-ended employment contracts the Employment Visa is granted for one year initially and then normally renewed in two chunks until you reach the 7 year requirement for Permanent Residence. If you conditions of employment are unchanged then the renewal after one year is very straightforward.

PDLM, the initial employment may not limited to one year. Of course, it depends on your employment period. Sometimes, it may be less than one year. After one year, you'll have to renew your working visa. It can be renewed for one year, 2 years or 3 years. Of course, it is totally under the discretion of the immigration department.

The "you need a work permit" answer usually indicates that the employer is not willing to go through the process of sponsoring employment visas, and only hires people who either have permanent residence or a dependent's visa.

That is one possibility.

The other is that the positions you are applying for can be filled by locals and a work visa for the job would therefore (likely) be denied (or the employer has not done the work to prove that the position cannot be filled by a local). I'm not sure what your experience and credentials are, but they may matter in distinguishing you from the many locals who can cook commercially and are trained in some capacity to do so. Maybe try to focus your efforts on establishments that cater to your specialty for a better chance of success. Good luck in any event.
