School for 5.5 and 3.5 years old

Hi,
I will be moving to HK soon. Can anyone tell me the HK educational system for young children? which are the better schools and their registration rules.
Thanks

5.5 Years old can join Primary and 3.5 Years can join Kindergarten. The selection of School/ KG depends on many factors such as location, proximity, budget, preferred medim of instruction etc.
Generally speaking........
For Kindergarten, 2 types
(1) International Kindergarten (i.e. Mainty English)
(2) Local Kindergarten (i.e. Mainly Chinese and some English)
The curriculum of KG widely varies as some focuses on simply play and learn and some already start putting kids into writing and reading stuff.... Choice is yours.
For Primary, 5 types
(1) Government primary schools ( Free education)
(2) Government Aided Primary schools
(3) Government Subsidised Schools (DSS)
(4) Private Schools
(5) English School Foundation (ESF) schools
For more information on selection of school and fees etc, please refer to
http:/www.emb.gov.hk.

Other than http://www.Geobaby.Com, ClassmateAsia.Com has a good amount of information on the schools.

you guys are great advisors

Hi, thanks for your response. My kids do not speak Mandarin or Cantonese. They speak English and very little Spanish as this is a second language taught in school. This may be a big problem. In addition we may not qualify for government schools as we are not permanent residents or citizens of Hong Kong. thank you everyone, I'll check the respective websites you suggested.

You do not need to be a permanent resident or a citzen of Hong Kong to get into the local schools. The problem with local schools is cultural. Your kids might find it very difficult to adapt to an environment where every social conversation is in Cantonese.
