| | | Expat Salary Levels Currently Does anyone know what the salary range is for getting a job in HK in the business/finance/banking sector is. I know this is a general question, but maybe you could give examples for a couple job titles for someone with a bachelor's degree and 2-3 years experience and their compensation package and housing allowance.
Are salaries in HK rising or falling for expats coming over here with a degree & experience? Or does it depend on the sector?
How about the health of the HK economy? Is it getting squeezed by competition from the other three East Asian tigers Singapore, S. Korea, and Taiwan and also Shanghai/Shenzhen/Guangzhou/Macau ? Growing?, property values, GDP (and per capita), etc...
Are there more or less expats coming to work in HK then say 5 years, ago, 10 years ago, or even 20. Is pollution affecting expats who decide to leave? What was the golden age for the full blown expat packages?
And is their country of origin shifting? I heard Indonesians are taking over as DH's from previous Filipina levels of dominance. Are more or less Americans, British, French, Chinese, etc coming here than in the forementioned years?
Any help would be appreciated thanks.

The commercial aviation industry has been a good example, with its determination over the last 7 years, training local cadet pilots, locking them into 5 year contracts, paying them much lower wages , than what an expat recruited pilot would expect, by not offering any housing allowance etc, further lowering their operational costs...
I think just having a BA in any dicipline, isnt going to command much of an advantage, especially in a city that is very much academically discriminatory, there's receptionists out there that have MBA's ! lol
The golden age of expat lifestyle, would have to have been between 1986 - 1997, people were making money for jam back then, but since then, the western expat population is 100,000 fewer since 1996.The British expat population has reduced by 90%, which is a pretty significant reduction...
Filipina and Indonesian populations in HK have increased since 1997, so, some ethnic groups have increased, some have decreased.

| | | Salary level - local contract Hiya,
our family of 2 adults and 3 years old child are planning to move to HK. I got the offer of local contract in HK. I would be very keen to understand better the salary levels in HK for senior management stuff. And naturally how much to estimate the cost for apartment. Per my findings looks like something 25 - 30 k HKD is appropriate guess.
Anyone with information, responses are highly appreciated.

On the other hand there are "expats" in management positions earning less than $25K per month in total.

Underpaid .. specially if you have revenue related responsibilities (sales / marketing). | I read $25-30K as what he is looking to spend on accommodation, not his total package... but rereading the post I see that it's ambiguous.

| | | Yeah .. I misread that given that the topic was about expat salaries and not housing costs. | |

| | | Sorry for the unclear post.
The position is in manufacturing industry and we are talking about Director level position with global responsibility, located in HK. Housing budget c. 25-30 k HKD and total package offered is 100+ k HKD per month. Plus naturally bonus on top of that.
