HK work visa expiring--which midnight

My HK work visa expires on the 19th of October. Does that mean midnight on the 18th or midnight on the 19th?
I will be at the Canton Fair and need to know so I can get back into HK with minimal hassles.
And yes, I have applied for renewal and will be picking up the new one on October 22nd.

It means you can enter up until midnight on the 19th.

But can't you get ImmD to grant an extension on the visa before you leave so that it is valid until the 22nd? Should be an easy job at Immigration Tower.

That works for me. I'll come back on Friday the 19th and hide in HK until I get the new one on the 22nd.
It never occured to me to ask for an extension and they never offered the possibility.
