I have a buddy out in Tampa. He's a chef at a hotel, but I forget which one. He says it's kind of slow out there, but he's adapting.

Yeah, I bet it is a culture shock, especially living in Yau Ma Tei. You probably didn't do the subway, bus and taxi thing in FL either. I live in the Mid-Levels, aka the gweilo ghetto. I moved back to be with my family and ended up staying here and working. Been two-and-a-half years now. I see a possible move to Europe in the future, but for now, I'm busy helping people speak and write better English :P What do you do?

yeah..you are not going to find any expats living in yau ma tei. i'm sure it's quite an experience living there compare to FL. i moved here a few months ago from SoCal...it's not too difficult to meet people here. welcome to hk and enjoy your stay!

Rachel,
I also just moved over here from the US. I am living on Hong Kong Island. Let me know if you are interested in meeting up in Kowloon or on the island. Perhaps we can find a place with college football (I graduated from Wake Forest in 2005)

i am local and i am 22 too....

by the way, i am glad that u like hongkong....
and u are correct..most expats in HK island...because of so many reasons, including historical reasons.......

but i think it is also good for u to meet some local people, so that u can immerse in the local culture

Hi there, I'm also new to this forum, too. Exactly, I'm not really an expat but, rather, have spent most of my life so far in HK. Indeed, I'm looking for language partners... and would also like to know more about Western cultures. I'm 19/M and now studying at a local university.
