passport / visa issue Okay, I currently have a work permit in my passport that is valid until March, when my current passport expires. I am in the process of getting a new passport as this one is no longer valid for 6 months and I am going to Thailand at the end of next week. I have just had a thought that I will therefore re enter the country with a passport without a visa in it. I will obviously have the voided passport with me and my HK ID card - Is this going to be a problem? Will the new passport be stamped with a "permitted to remain until" or do I face the situation of not being able to work? Any assistance gratefully received

The passport may be voided, but the visas are current. I have several passports (used to run through 1 a year) with old visas and have never had a problem. When you reenter, you can go to immigration with your new passport and it will take them an hour or so to transfer the visa and put the new sticker on your passport.

Presumably, KIA is referring to Immigration office in town, not place of entry (unless they do it there as well, which I'm not aware of). You can get it done even before your trip if you have the time and don't fancy carrying two PPs on trips. I remember the oddity of the fees for such "endorsement" being a dollar more than those for new visas or extensions.
