hello everyone

i have a 8 months old Maltese, he's like a family member to us.
We are planning to move to Sydney in about one month time, but the problem is our puppy needs to wait 5 months after blood test(anti rabies test required by Oz import regulation). Otherwise the remaining time will be added on top of 30 days quarantine. This means our poor puppy would have to stay in quarantine for over 4 months in total. it breaks my heart to think that my puppy will be stressed out in a quarantie locked up in a small space without much excercise.

I am considering whether I should leave him in an accomodation in HK which has a big excercise area to finish waiting for 5 months period, then bring him to Oz for just 30 days quarantine.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

when we arrived in HK we checked every kennel around so we could board our dog when we travel.
Petworld in Yuen Long has a great facility - the dogs run freely in a secure area, and they even have swimming pools, AND life preservers for the dogs. Since it would be such a long boarding time, you should strike a discount deal with them.

Hello there ... I am in exactly the same situation. Do you mind me asking what you did in the end? I have a very active 1.5 year old Pug and there is absolutely no way I could put him in quarantine for 5 months however, I have to return to Sydney!.

I cant bring myself to find him a new owner .. he is my family

Hi Rhi - dont know if u have travelled yet - I have juz moved here to HK from Sydney. Originally we moved from US to Sydney in 2004 - and yes, minimum requirement to stay in Sydn quarantine is 1 month that is if ur dog got all his COMPLETE vaccination (ask ur VET for guideline). I forgot what the shot is called, but there is a shot that was to be given to the dog 6 months prior to departure. we were lucky to know ahead of time that we were moving to Sydney, so he had his shot way ahead - thus minimizing his quarantine stay. At the end, he still had to part with us for a month but he survived. The quarantine in Sydney were very friendly people and they took very great care of our, then traumatized baby dog. Good luck with ur dog's travel - highly suggest u get your vet's advise. cheers
