comment on ib expat package? (3yr analyst)

hello there,
i need a little comment on the expat package for 3yr analyst (possibly 1yr associate although chances are low) in one of the US BB i bank (trading). i am in talks with this bank, still on the final stage of the interview, haent get the offer yet but from last interview the interviewer asking about my current package/ introduced briefly their package.

i am from one of those asian countries, with BA degree (from local but one of the top unis). have round 2yrs of full time experience. basiaclly

1. base salary (HKD/ USD)
2. bonus (HKD/ USD)
3. housing allowance (HKD/ USD)

will be my main curiosity. (although i guess bonus will not be specified in the contract, would like to know the average).

also, if i get this job, then i will have to move before my bonus is paid for this yr (2nd yr analyst), they need to compensate this to me. how does this go around usually?

thanks in advance!

Where are you being recruited from? It makes a bit of a difference say if you're being relocated from the US / UK or from say ... India.

I doubt that it's India - people there tend to be using capital letters, punctuation and so on.

But recent evidence here has shown that lower level positions don't even require basic "life competences" such as being able to plug in a laptop or change a light bulb, so I guess that isn't so important.

all depends on many factors. what kind of roles u are in now, what kind of role u are in next.

anyway wats the difference between analyst and associate ? seems like u are attaching a great importance to it ?

If your experience is only 2-3 years then your bargaining power is significantly reduced and I doubt that they will give you a full expat package.

No offense, but just looking at the way you write, and bearing in mind that these are positions that require significant amount of documentation in its most formal form, then you are competing with a hoard of more qualified people.

Now, if you have been made the offer and are asking people what you should be comped:

1. Salary: HKD650-800kpa,
2. Bonus: 25-50% of base
3. Housing allwnc: anything upto 85k a month.

IF they are desperate, they will "buy-out" your bonus from the exisitng place.

I very much doubt that with your limited experience, you will be on a full blown expat package.

A slight rant on my end. When folks see badly written posts, requesting help, with the excuse "well its the internet" their desire to respond with a good answer just disappears.

Its ok if you're responding to someone in a hurry or the wealth of knowledge in your response overrides the style .... but from dozens of conversations with some of our most helpful members the conclusion is ... if you want a good and helpful response - show people that you've taken the time to think about your question and make it readable.

Rant over ..

KIA,

Well-stated.

Lesson:
Initial/first impressions go along way no matter the medium in which you are presenting yourself.

Hi, there. First of all, I'd have to say thanks for all your replies and sorry for my initial post if that gave the impression I was not putting enough effort here myself. I was totally naive to believe that the format didn't matter too much.

For Freeier: I do not attach big importance to the title, especially as a trader. I kinda guessed maybe if they accept me as 1st yr Associate, rather than 3rd yr Analyst, then the package should be different. Guess not?

For Katanga: The bonus part was kind of surprising. Last year as a 1st yr full time, I got bonus of 100% of my base salary. My base was for sure lower than the range you gave me, but not stupidely low. Is it normal to get 25~50% of base salary as bonus with your range of base for above mentioned position? I assumed, although, that what matters after all is the gross amount for the year.....

Your help much appreciated!
