Any Interior Designer recommendation?

Hi,

Any assistance on the following will be appreciated.

Bought a new apt in Kowloon (Grand Waterfront) and will be receiving the keys to the place in November'07.

Since I am still in the US, can someone provide a interior designer referral? I plan on coming back in November to begin renovating the apt.

Estimated budget is between $50k(US) and $100k(US)

Thanks in advance

dunno man, you're talking about spending 8-16 years rent there on interior design... one of us is on the wrong forum, wealth wise...

My personal recommendation would be Di White over at Insite, I've done quite a bit of work with her.
Design Chambers are also good.

Did you ever find a good design place? Lots of them on Ma Tau Wai Road and they are all there it seems until late nights. Not surprising to find some still there at 11 pm on Saturday nights when I walk from the bus.

I will be moving into the Grand Waterfront this week sometime (waiting on a bed) with the rest already furnished by the landlord.

One thing I'd not do is buy there. It will be interesting to see if my prediction is correct or not though. Lots of places there for rent it seems and it has one huge advantage - it is new and clean.

Why I'd not buy there is the grandiose size and space devoted to the community facilities. Right now the gymn is $25 per visit which is not bad given there are times you don't get there every day so averaging a monthly fee over 30 days is not always realistic. Bowling is also IIRC around $35 - 45 depending on time you use it. The theatre where you just stand on the pad outside and the door opens is awesome and on and on.

My point. If these are the charges now, what will they have to rise to to cover costs not to mention security galore when the developer is long gone? I think big prices.

Our landlord, a civil engineer has a unique design for the one bedroom with the shelf by the window that just wastes space. He put in a single bed with drawers and then used rubber shower floor mats (that are about 2 inches thick) to make it level with the bed and he has then added a double bed mattress!! Not so good if you can't sleep close to the window.

Any other geoexpats in the Grand Waterfront?

Hi there

I have one eye on renting a place at GW.

Two questions:

1. Would a 2 bed unit be able to accommodate 2 double beds? This would be temporary for one of the bedrooms so don't care if it fits a bed and nothing else.

2. How is the commute to central? I keep reading of a 15 min ferry but is this reliable and how regular in peak hours?

Any replies greatly appreciated.

1. No. See my post above for how to do it in one of the bedrooms. IMO the second bedroom will not fit a double bed as it is built differently. It may be that there is more one than layout for the 2 Br flats than ours though so maybe do a measurement first before deciding. The double only fit in the one bedroom using the method I suggested.

2. Haven't taken the ferry but to North Point. Not in there yet so not sure of the time. We haven't moved in yet.

The ferry is free for 2 years. Five sailings a day with 3 in the mornings and two at night to Central and five back mornings and night but it looks all to be rush hour related.

No Sunday sailings.

Follow up

Football16,

We're still in the states - My wife is contacting designers and waiting for responses.

A few of them are booked through the Lunar New Year.

GW is just a place for us to stay while our 3-year old daughter begins her schooling over there.

Have you moved in yet? If so, how do you like the place so far?
