visa dilemma (is there a better suggestion?) Hi, I am facing a dilemma in applying for working visa in HK. I came to HK during April '04 on a vistor pass and til now i'm still in HK but i went thru HK customs a no. of times, goin to china and back to my home country. The reason for my stay here was to understand the working operations of my uncle's trading company and he is willing to sponsor me. And we understand that it is difficult to obtain a working visa in HK unless i have special skills or reasons to warrant their approval. I'm a fresh graduate with a degree and my uncle wants to groom me so that in future he is able to have a set up a branch in my home country for me to manage. My role here is to learn the operations. The main office will still be in HK. So now the dilemma is to choose between applying a normal working visa or an investment visa? And if I choose to obtain an investment visa, once the branch in my home country is set up, there will be transactions goin on between both countries and the reason we could back us up is that we are contributing to the economy of HK. Its cracking my brains and we do not want to take risk, as once rejected, i might not be able to apply again. Please advise. Thanks in advance.

hello Have you thought about the option of establishing the business in your home country and then applying for a training visa to come to Hong Kong for a fixed period of time and then return back to the company in your home country? Generally fresh graduate applications with no experience within an industry planning to apply for an employment or investment visa can be difficult.

Thanks Emigra. Yeah we thought about establising a company back in my home country. But upon much ponder, we decided that it might not be feasible for us. Cos' my uncle was suggesting that he might have a few options, my home country or china, probably in other countries he thinks he could be able to expand to. Thus, not a ready choice to establised yet. I have thought of a few options but i'm not sure if it works. (A) Apply for an investment visa through addition as a new shareholder of my uncle's company. If so, is it easier to obtain a visa and is there any minimum capital outlay i will have to contribute? (B) My uncle has a subsidiary in Msia and I was thinking about applying a work permit in Msia as I'm from Singapore. Then from there, get the company to apply for a transfer for me to HK office. I'm wondering if this will work. But the problem is i might need to explain my reason for being in HK from May til now. If you have any other better suggestions, please share. Thanks

hello Investment visa could be an option but I would need to send you an evaluation form to review your situation, if interested please PM me your email address. For the employment in Malaysia you cannot just arrange employment there and straight after arrange a transfer to Hong Kong, you would need to spend some time there to gain experience within the industry before you apply for an employment visa for Hong Kong. Look forward to your reply.
