Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival - leave work early? Next Tuesday is Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival and Wednesday is a public holiday. My local staff has asked if they can leave after lunch on Tuesday, as this would be "normal" in Hong Kong. I don't want to go against any local customs and usually we are very flexible, but is this really normal practice in HK? What are your thoughts on this?

My firm is letting everyone out at 3 - I had never heard of this until the other day, but also was not here this time last year. If we're letting people off early it must be the norm.

If you can be a nice person, why not. Maybe they would like to get over the border to see family. I hope you have got presents ready to give them for the holiday!

Leaving work early before this holiday is a standard practice. My company HR suggested 2-3 hours earlier than normal.

Basically, we are already not working for the past couple of days as everybody is too stuffed with Mooncakes.... our office is overloaded with all these boxes! Will be nice and let them go early. And our headquarter will be happy, as this is about the time they start work!
