This is a long shot I know, but I'm looking to buy a replacement rechargeable battery similar to the one below. It's an 8.4V 7-cell ni-cd. Does anyone have ANY suggesiton on where I can go to find one of these? Hardware store? Someplace else? In particular, suggestions around wan chai would be great.

You should be able to get one wired up on Ap Lui street. Or find a remote controlled car store on HK side (I've heard there is one near Wood Lane in Wan Chai, but I have not seen it).

Or you could go online for a custom job. Postage comes to a fair it though. http://www.batteryspace.com/ is one place.

every radio control car shop sells these, try Wan Chai Road near charter house, there used to be a few RC shops there, if u cant find then u need to get to mong kok, dundas street/kwong wa street, there are loads of RC shops there that sell batteries for all kinds of stuff, 7.2V, 8.4V, 9.6V, u name it they will sell if not they will be able to make it for you as well.

thanks for the suggestions everyone. YOu'll be glad to know I found one up near Ap Liu St. today. I got scammed into buying a $326 battery, only to find the one I really wanted a few shops down the street, but it seems to work ok so I'm happy. Thanks all for your input!
