Where to have vegetarian food?

Hi! I am travelling to hongkong with my family this coming December and will be staying in Shamrock hotel along Nathan Road.

Can someone recommand any food court or places that sells nice and cheap food near this hotel? Preferbly also opens early in the morning?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

The Indian restaurants in that area will always have a good selection of vegetarian dishes at fairly reasonable costs (for HK).

Places like Knutsford Terrace in TST have dozens of restaurants and most of them have a good range of veggie options.

If it's early and you are OK with Indian Veg then it would be worth a walk down to Chungking mansions where there's loads.
If it's western veg you're after there are only a couple of dedicated places on HK island side.
There are a few Chinese/Buddhist veg places but I only know a couple in Central.
Clicky-clicky for a comprehensive list.

Within walking distance from the Shamrock Hotel

Branto's is at 9 Lock Rd ground floor in TST tel: 2366 8171

Nomads on Kimberly Rd - has both vegetarian grill and non veg. grill...when you go tell them that you want you food cooked on veg. grill (lunch is HK$64 pp for the same thing dinner I believe is approx. HK$140 pp)

The Evergreen restaurant on Parkes Street (note there are two sides of Parkes Street as it is divided by Jordan Rd. - you want the side that has the McDonald's on it and across the street is a BonJour - go to the very end and the restaurant is on the left side)

Now on Jordan Rd there are a few veg options - this is not even a 3 minute walk from your hotel.

At the intersection of Nathan Rd and Jordan Rd. there is one side that has Watson's Drug Store - there take a left down Jordan Rd. you will cross over Parkes St., Woo Sung Street, Shanghai Street - just past Shanghai Street there are two differ veg. restaurants. I apologize for not knowing the names of them.

Some others all within walking distance from your hotel.

Light Vegetarian Restaurant

Joyful Vegetarian

No McDonald' and other fast food resturants in HK do not sell veggie burgers.

However, when you step outside of your hotel turn left heading towards Jordan Rd. cross Jordan Rd so that you are in front on Yue Hwa (big red sign w/ gold letters) continue to walk up Jordan Rd one or two more streets just a few shops in on one of those side streets there is a Kabob place - that sells one or two type of Turkish style veggie wraps. I believe the name of it is called "Friends."

There is veggie pizza - at Pizza Hut, California Pizza Kitchen, Wildfire and Pizza Box. I believe at Spaghetti House (there's one near your hotel just a few doors over) has veg options.

megatronic will become famous soon enough
These are two good websites for looking for veggie/vegan restaraunts in HK:

http://www.ivu.org/hkvegan/gb/main.html

http://www.godsdirectcontact.com/veg...s/sheet003.htm

It's a good idea to call before you go, just to make sure that the restaurant you want to visit is still open for business.
