Hello all, I am moving to HK in the first week of ocober... and was hoping to get some comments or opinions on how to go about finding a decent flat. Ideally need to be in Kowloon, near TsimShaTsui as that is where i will be working. I have been told Harbourfront Horizon is a good place to be and the flats are nice. Is this true? and also what is the averae price range? Also if i take a 2 bed, how long does it normally take to find a person to share? Lastly, whats it like...? i have beento HK once for a week, was quite live. Thanks in advance

Search the forums for harbourfront horizon. A fair few of our members live there.

Hi Welcome to HK (or better Kowloon-side aka the dark-side)! Finding a person to share depends on how well you are going to screen your potential flat mate or will you just accept anyone. Plus, supply and demand for the locale too! As for finding a decent flat come and explore for a few days - spend time in the neighborhood and look at a variety. If you are going to be working in TST there are some great small neighborhoods to consider - such - as Kimberly Rd/ Austin Ave/Observatory Rd Areas - Hillwood Rd - some prefer Austin Rd and just off across from Kowloon Park - also Ocean View Court on Chatham Rd overlooking TST East is nice (older building but extremely convenient) - in Jordan (just 3 to 5 min walk from TST) there is Tak Shing St and Cox Rd area too. HK is social which from time to time means that it can get a bit pricey - depending if you are the eat out every day and night type or stay at home and cook type possibly the in between type.

The dark-side is a long running local saying - but actually Kowloon-side is vibrant and energetic. The original origin of "the dark-side" I am not 100% certain on. I assume that it comes from the old days of when the upper class and ruling elite lived on HK island and more locals lived on Kowloon-side. But don't quote me on it.

You can do your research on sites like gohome.com.hk and other agents websites. Not many of them are going to email you photos.

Great... so i should be proud of living onthe dark side too! Due to the lack of response from the Agencies via net i have decided to just contact people once I get there. Is it like Europe, where u pay the deposit + 1 months rent?
