Due to the lack of response from the Agencies via net i have decided to just contact people once I get there. Is it like Europe, where u pay the deposit + 1 months rent?

YES BE PROUD!!

I always recommend giving yourself at least 4 to 5 days to shop around and get into something relatively good.

Be prepared to pay: first month rent + last month rent + government stamp fee (tax) + property agent fees + (some landlords ask for another month's rent too as part of the security deposit)
