Hi, Star Gazer,

Thanks for your comments.

Actually, part-time job doesn't mean you can do the job any time. You need to follow the regulation of each project and company requirements. For our job nature, we need to verify the companies information. So, the callers must call the companies within the local office hrs. This explained what I said before that French caller need to make call in afternoon and night as there are 6-7 hrs time gap between HK and France. For Vietnamese, there is only 1-2 hrs time gap with HK.

One point I would like to emphasize is: I need speaker only, not the nationallity. That means, anyone who can speak French or Vietnamese, also can apply the job. No matter you are a Vietnamese, HK people, American or a Chinese........ If you can speak both languages, I will also give you these 2 project together. For your information, we offer the Mandarin speaker is $15 per successful case. Is it discrimination?

So, there is no need for any of you to think too much. If you have interest, just apply it. If no, just ignore it.

Discrimination? On what basis?

Get away with what? For paying people different wages for different skill-sets and jobs?

Indeed - this is political correctness gone mad. Are you saying that someone who can, say, maintain a Ferrari must necessarily be paid the same as someone who can maintain a Lamborghini? Of course not! It's basic supply and demand - the market quickly shows the real situation: at the moment the recruiter believes there are more Vietnamese speakers prepared to work for lower wages in the market than there are French speakers. If they are wrong then they won't fill the posts, and if they are right then over time we'll find more Vietnamese speakers learning French.

If you can't cope with these concepts then I suggest you go and live in an economy where people try to manage the market. Zimbabwe springs to mind.

How do you, StarGazer, reconcile your views here with a previous post ( Transport Contact ) where you promote the virtues of the free market and encourage people to patronise taxi drivers who price themselves below others in the market?

StarGazer : Have you walked past the cosmetics counters in any luxury / upscale shop? Noticed .. no fugly people selling makeup.

How about that! Discrimination gone all wrong .. and this is happening in your back yard ..

I personally prefer a world where you as an employer can really dictate what you want to pay ... and let market forces take over from there. None of that minimum wage crap please...

By the way, do let me know where you work so that we can send someone over from an underdeveloped country to take over your job for approximately 1/3rd your current salary (yeah, we'll make sure their cage hotel is paid for..)

also it is irrelevant whether there are more papers or not. it's the same type of work, and the vietnamese speaker should get the same rate as the french speaker. if i do 30 papers, i should get the same wage as the french speaker gets for doing 30 papers too..

it is discrimination, and it is sad that companies can get away with it.

If the add said Vietnamese person gets X dollars while a French person gets Xplus then I would agree with you. However, as Zoe has said, it only refers to the languages they can speak. So if a Vietnamese person could speak French then they could go for the higher paid job. The difference in pay is down to unsocial working hours. Normally I am strongly against unfair discrimination but I am afraid you are talking absolute crap in this case.

I'm surprised that you have to ask, and wonder what you think about salary differences between expats, locals, and mainland Chinese?
