Hi, I apologize if this has been asked before and I missed it. I'm an American student on a foreign exchange program at a university in Hong Kong. I have a double-entry visa to China, but I'd like to go more than twice because I'm working on a project for which I'd like to do some research from the mainland.

Is there any way for me to get a multiple-entry tourist visa to mainland China from Hong Kong?

Normally the first mainland China visa given to USA passport holders is only double entry.

The next time you go I suggest you ho in person to the Wan Chai office - if you haven't already. Ask the representative to "please consider giving you a multiple entry visa" - they will need a copy of your HK ID Card for this as well as a picture.

As far I know that they mulyiple entries only to HK Permanent ID Card holders and u can get upto 3 years multiple entries

You might also consider getting a letter from your university stating that you need to travel frequently to the PRC for research purposes.
