Hiya,
I currently work for a multi-national company in the UK as a Consultant. I recently married my fiancee who is a permanent HK resident and I have been granted a dependency visa. I already have my HKID card.
I contacted the HK office and basically asked if there was any work in HK. He said that they were trying to boost their consultancy business and as I'd already been doing an almost identical job in the UK, he was quite interested. It would have been difficult to find someone with my experience in Hong Kong and as I already have the visa paperwork sorted, that's one less thing for them to worry about.
The problem was that he didn't have a budget for consultants as HK is mostly a sales office and although he has been told to grow the consultancy side, he hasn't been given any specific funding yet. He was going to have a meeting with his boss to see what he could sort out.
I haven't heard back yet but it was only last week so I'm not panicking
He did ask what salary range I was looking for but I was able to avoid answering. Next time though (assuming he has something to offer) I won't be so lucky...
So my questions are :
1) How do I pick a good price? There aren't any comparable jobs in HK to match it to so I can only go based on what I'm paid in the UK.
2) As I'm the one doing the looking and I already have the visa, I'm assuming they'll treat me as a local applicant or should I try and get more expat benefits?
Basically I just want any advice on how to negotiate what really is just a transfer, what sort of benefits should I look for, and whether or not there are specific things I should be asking
Thanks in advance and apologies for the long post
Cheers!
