came across this thread and thought i'd add on to say that i will be moving to HK in Jan 08 too..

wasn't very sure when the offer came along but i've signed on the line now and things seem to move along alot faster than i had imagined..

i'm looking for accommodation in kowloon but am not too sure where to even begin.. any good "areas" i should look out for particularly? company covers cost of accoms so it needn't be too budget.. clean, simple and nice would be good...

thanks!

kowloon is a fairly large area and we still need a budget range, even if company is paying for it.... is it $15,000/month or $90,000 per month? (please don't say "somewhere in the middle" that's a very large middle! LOL)

for hk that is a very tight budget!!!

are you single, or with a family?
does it need to be close to schools?
how long of a commute are you willing to put up with?
how many bedrooms do you want?
are you hoping to have facilities like gym/pool? (for that budget, unlikely)
do you want to rely on mass transit, or are taxis ok?
where in kowloon are you hoping for(where will you work)?

these are just a few questions that need to be answered for anyone to help you out.

1) single
2) no schools
3) as short a commuting as possible.. i'm not a morning person!
4) 2 bedrooms would be ideal, though 1 will do.
5) can do without the facilities
6) MTR.. no taxis..
7) anywhere i suppose.. i'll be working at kowloon bay area..

thanks!

Try Harbourbourview horizon or Harbourfront Hotel, fully furnished apartment. Good point, its at Hung Ham Bay, u just need to walk to work.
Or you can try Whampao, very convenient !

Have a look at gohome.com
10 to 12 K may or may not get you something really superb. Having said that, have to warn you that if you're coming from Spore, there are some apartments here that may be quite grotty, especially if the older estates. And the apartment size that's quoted to you may not necessarily be the actual size. It can be about 20% smaller.

i'd look at Laguna City. It's between Kwun Tong and Lam Tin. You can even get a taxi for less than $20HKD. There is a minibus to Lam Tin MTR and there used to be one to Kwun Tong(although in the mornings you might have to wait a while in a queue).

They are fairly reasonably priced and you would even get membership to the clubhouse where there is a gym and a pool.
Flats are on the smallish side, some have fantastic views. If you want something newer, try phase 4. they are the newest of the buildings.

We lived there 7 years ago and had a lovely 2 bed flat, harbour views, 699'(so they say). Nice interior. We paid $12,000 for it. Not sure what prices are like now though.

you might try Telford Gardens, right on top of Kowloon Bay MTR station...probably 5 min walk to anywhere in KB business district...a bit older and more local, but a huge mall underneath and an even bigger new one (MEGABox) 5 mins away
