Netvigator Everwhere Service? Is it worth it?

Hi,

Anyone sign up for the Netivagator Everywhere service? How's the speed on the Wi-Fi, HSDPA and 3G platforms?

Is it worth it? I'm coming to HK for work and that seems like a good fit for my broadband needs as I will be jumping from location to location.

Or will a simple wireless account at hotspot access will do?

Thanks,

Den

You might want to consider just using HSDPA and 3G options.

The WiFi seems unreliable in many locations.

If you stick with HSDPA and 3G, you might find Smartone's data service pretty decent.

Good to know. How's the coverage and speed for SmarTone?

I'll be in Tuen Muen, Cheng Sha Wan, and Causeway Bay, I figure there shouldn't be a problem...but just checking before I commit to either service.

I do like that SmarTone is a pay as you go system.

I disagree about the smartone data service, they rate limit you. Try using the service above 500 megabytes in a month, and see your bandwidth drop from 2-3 Megabits to 10-15Kilobits, it's pretty pathetic (for the unlimited plan anyway).

WiFi is better but it's not truly mobile, you can't use it while you're in a taxi or a bus, but if you're sitting around in starbucks or a restaurant with WiFi I would pick that anytime.

george - was not aware of that, as during our testing we probably went to a couple of hundred MB.

Is this the same with PCCW?

I don't use the Netvigator service myself so I can't say for sure, I am stuck with smartone, got suckered into buying the 18 months plan the concept of netvigator is interesting in that it is supposed to use either wifi, hsdpa or 3g. In practice I'm not sure how it can decide what service to use.

From when I first purchased this modem Wifi was not as readily available as it is today, so what I do now is use a hotspot first and then use the smartone service if I don't get it.
