What makes you think he's desperate for a "girlfriend"? It's an anthropomorphic statement.

Breeding him will only make this behavior worse. How about neutering instead?

Humping is not a sign of sexual frustration, it's a dominance behaviour.

The humping behaviour could be sexual, but it can also be a sign of dominance as one of the other posters suggested. There's several ways to deal with this problem:

1. Neutering
2. Training - to reduce the dominant behaviour
3. Medication

Letting the dog have "sex" will not deal with the problem since it doesn't address either the testosterone levels or the underlying behavioural issues of the dog. So, it won't help your case. If left unattended this problem could become worse.

My best advice to you would be to neuter your dog. There are actually very good (medical) reasons for wanting to do this, both for behaviour and long-term health of your dog. In particular prostrate problems and certain tumors can be avoided. Here's a bit more information for you on neutering:

OK...I know this is a very controversial issue and it's been hotly debated (on this forum too). I am not going to tell you to do this or not to do this, but just want to make you aware that it's a very serious decision to have puppies and you really need to consider all aspects of this before you go and do it. Here's some aspects to look at:

1/ Medical Costs - there's alot of medical costs associated with having puppies. You'll need to be ready for vet checks, vaccinations, neutering etc. for your dog, the other dog and the puppies. If there are complications (for example, during birth) this can up the costs quite significantly. Please look into this and be prepared for it.

2/ Adoption - what will happen to the puppies when they are born? Do you have places to adopt them to, or will you adopt them all yourself? There is a cronic problem of unwanted puppies in HK so this needs to be considered. Also, what if any of the puppies have problems (for example, physical deformities or illness)? How will you deal with this? Many breeds have specific problems that you'll need to check for and monitor in the puppies. You and the other dog's owner will be responsible for all the puppies so it's important to consider their future and what you will do if things go wrong.

I'm not sure what your reasons are for wanting to breed. If it's just a personal experience (you want to see some puppies) there are plenty of unwanted puppies needing foster homes at the local rescue centers. If it's because you are serious about breeding and/or owning the puppies yourself then you should do some more research about it and be ready for the consequences. You can contact the Kennel Club and talk to your vet about breeding. Also, for serious breeders, the Kennel Club may have registered members who are interested in breeding.

Of course, there are plenty of website links about breeding as well. Here are a few that covers the basics (and problems) associated with breeding:
http://www.wonderpuppy.net/breeding.htm
http://www.k9web.com/dog-faqs/breeding.html

This one is US-centric, but also covers some of the issues:

Good luck with whatever you decide.

I agree with Nina. It's easy for your dog as he's the male. Just do his job and that's it. What about the female dog? And medical issues and stuff like that? Have you considered that? If you have a female dog then it might be different as you'll have to take the responsibilities of the pregnancy. Are you going to chip in in terms of support and finance if things happen to the female dog? Or just walk away?
