Car Insurance - transfering NCB from UK

I am about to buy a new car in Hong Kong and obviously need to insure it. As I have only been in HK for 9 months, I have zero NCB. However, back in the UK I had 13 years NCB. Is it possible to transfer some or all of this to HK to reduce my insurance bill?

has anyone tried this before?

Thanks

Do you have some proof - the best you can do is try and ask for the NCB.

Have you tried the Auto Association here in HK? They gave us the best rates.

Normally whenever my car insurance in the Uk is up for renewal, they always send me the renewal form with the latest NCB stated on there. I can call up my old insurance company to get them to fax it over, but before I do that, I just wanted to check if it was viable.

Cheers

We've had NCB transfered between companies in HK, so not sure, but like I said, worth a try.

Have you tried Kwiksure insurance? I dealt with an Aussie guy by the name of Anthony up there and he was very helpful with NCB transfer details.

Oooh watch it KIA doesn't like Kwiksure.

Saying that, I have taken out car insurance with them for the past few years.

Tommyknocker will become famous soon enough
Insurance - Transfer of NCB

I did that with the car that I bought. They honoured the NCB from my UK insurer. Kwiksure were the Company that I used - good quote, great service.

Members opinion's matter more than mine. Was pretty impressed with what Lammarite's experience was .... so, well I remain neutral on this issue.

Just a quick update.

Pretty much most of the insurers were happy to take my UK NCB into consideration. I just had to call my UK insurer and asked them to fax over a letter proving my NCB.

However, the lowest quotation by far is from Kwiksure - what's the problem with this company? Are they trustworthy? The price is so attractive though...

Thanks

They are brokers so it's not that they are cheap but that they find the cheapest for you. Never had to claim so don't know what they are like for that.
