Sweet Surprise

And the tainted food scare goes on..... adding more worries for the consumers.

Sky News Asia
Chocolate munchers in South Korea were horrified to discover worms and moths crawling out of their favourite confectionery.

Customers made the gruesome discovery when unwrapping the Chinese-manufactured chocolates, which imitate a popular international chocolate brand.

Professor Ahn Young-chul, of Eulji University, said: "It seems to be seriously contaminated during the manufacturing process since the larvae of Plodia Interpun were found

However, several consumers have also found worms in a local Korean-made brand of chocolate.

I found the youtube video below.

Also on worms...

BEIJING -- China found microscopic worms and other harmful organisms in several batches of wooden packaging imported from the United States, state media said on Friday.

The pine wood nematodes were found in 13 sets of packaging in the manufacturing hub of Shenzhen, the China Daily said.

China has responded to criticism of its products (beef) by criticizing US products in turn. Hopefully this isn't another case of that.

The problem with China's counter-charges is that China is the only country making them. On the other hand we have the US, EU, a couple South/Central Americans and now the Koreans charging China.
We try to avoid Chinese food, but it is almost impossible. Although at the rate China is going, it is going to become more and more possible. Did you see Hillary Clinton and her ban Chinese imports stance?

Come on people!

Seriously, what is it with the lack of basic common sense?

I know that there have been some food scares recently, but as with ANYTHING you buy, you have to be vigilant and careful.

For the chocolates, just goes to show you don't settle for anything less than a reputed brand. And for worms to gestate like that, it would require the chocolate to be kept in some pretty warm and humid conditions. Even food manufacturers tell us to refrigerate any food items after opening -or in the case of chocolate/candy- to refrigerate them immediately or to store them in a clean, cool, dry place upon purchase.

Realistically, how many of us living here can afford to avoid Chinese-made food products? Look at practically everything we eat, it comes from there anyway! While most expats may have the 'benefit' of consuming foods bought from supermarkets that stock foods from overseas, spare a thought for the locals. Seen anyone here lately falling down dead from eating local food? Come on

Recently it's becoming increasingly popular to 'blame', or shun chinese-made products, but remember this, other countries that used to produce the same things previously were no angels either.

As for Hillary Clinton, how can anyone take her campaign seriously?

made-in-China food usually made form a number of unlicensed manufacturers. Many Chinese Only love Money. they made it in lower price, although the food is harmful to health. We should buy the food carefully.

Ha! The guys at the *real* Ferrero Rocher must be laughing - what better warning than this to illustrate the "dangers" of copycat food products

Personally I find it amazing that:
1) These blatant copies of an international trademark are allowed on Korean supermarket shelves; and
2) That anyone would even consider buying them. Presumably these people would also buy Weese's Peanut Gutter Cakes or N&N's..?
