Question Dependent Visa possible for Fiance?

Hi,

I'm moving to HK.

Can I get a dependent visa under a fiance status? I'm moving tonight but I have 3 mo continuous visitor /tourist status since I'm Canadian.

I have an offer to work for a US company who want to setup an operation there but need to arrange my own visa.

My wedding is end of December (4mo from now). Is it easier to get married early to obtain dependent visa? Or are they lenient and what proof do I need to show that I'm engaged and /or married when thetime comes.?

Thanks.

If you don't want to work within these 4 months, you can just stay as a visitor and do a visa run to China or Macau. For a Canadian citizien that should not be a problem even for a longer period.

It is sometimes possible to jump through a lot of hoops and get a visa if you can show that you have been living together as a couple overseas for an extended period and have firm plans to marry and you will sign a binding undertaking to do so (on pain of losing your visa). (Someone did report here on their success in doing that - I'll see if I can find the thread in a bit.)

But frankly if you have the option to get married earlier I would say just do it. You can go through a very simple bare minimum legal marriage in HK at 14 days notice (15 minutes max for the two of you, a civil celebrant (normally a solicitor) and two witnesses at the celebrant's office).

You can always leave your major party until the planned time and do a pseudo-marriage ceremony again then if you wish.

How is that legal proof of anything? I could take out a newspaper advert announcing I am Donald Tsangs illegitimate lovechild, but it doesn't make it true and legal proof.

I'm not by the way (his illegitimate lovechild) although I have noticed a lot of people do refer to me as 'that bastard over there'.
