Question on securing a residency in HK for wife and kids.

Hi

Can anyone help me with this question regarding the requirements on securing residency for wife and kids in HK?

I was born in HK and got a HK Permanent ID, I like to bring my wife and my two kids (both are still infants)to HK. Usually what are the procedures? Thanks

You need to apply for Depedant Visas for them. The form is this one:

http://www.immd.gov.hk/pdforms/id(e)936.pdf

and the guidance notes are here: http://www.immd.gov.hk/pdforms/id(e)937.pdf

If you take care to submit all the supporting documents requested then it should be pretty straightforward.

Thanks, I just went to the immigration dept and they told me that for my two kids i just need to fill out ROP 145 (A) and resident/dependent visa form for my wife. When I got home and read the ROP form i got kind of confused with part 2 on the form and not sure what to tick down.

What nationality do your children hold (and where were they born)? You can only apply for Permanent Residency for them if they are Chinese citizens (i.e. HK passport) or were born in HK. If they were born outside HK and do not hold Chinese citizenship then I think you need to apply for Dependant Visas for them too. If the Immigration Department didn't ask about the nationality of your kids (or where they were born) then I think they may have just assumed that they were either born in Hk or hold Chinese citizenship.

Thanks, I just printed out the dependent visa forms for them as well. Usually how long is the processing time in securing a dependent visa?. Thanks again for the info

The key thing is to get all the right paperwork with your initial application - it will be 4-6 weeks when they respond to you and that could be either approving the visa, or asking for more paperwork if they need it. so make sure you attach exactly what they ask for on the forms and if in doubt attach too much information rather than too little. If there is stuff that you really can't provide then write a covering letter explaining exactly why.
