Question Airline Club Membership - Stay with QF or go to CX

We're relocating to Hong Kong next year. I have Qantas Club membership and am wondering about changing to Cathay, as most of the travel I'll be doing will now be on CX.

However, am I correct in assuming that my QF Cub membership allows me access to the CX Club at HKG on if I am traveling on economy CX flights?

I also have Kris (SG) FF membership.

Supplementary question: If you changed to another airline club, what did you do with your original airline club membership?

Many thanks in advance!

QF is Quantas? I would keep that one (which is OneWorld alliance) but I would also join Marco Polo. Some airlines (DragonAir, for instance) will put points on to your Marco Polo account, but not your QF. No point in wasting air miles asthey might quickly add up.
Had I been on top of things earlier this year, I might have made it to elite status on two different airline alliances. As it is I might be a couple thousand short (which might mean a business trip in December).

QF Gold or Platinum members can access MPC lounge, not Qantas Club members.

You can still keep it.

Its always good to get a different set of membership cards cos not all airlines fall under the same group...

Asiamiles, One world, Orchid club...evergreen club....if your company will be paying for your travels you can always get the secretary to check if for the same value you can fly on any of your membership linked airlines.

As for Kris flyer its the lowest of the low...the High side is the Solitire PPS....

Kris flyer has them in blue-> green-> silver-> gold... but Krisflyers has the worst point system...

Northwest, BA, JAL, Vietnam Airways, Thai Airways have better point /miles system... and faster return tickets!

Excellent initial feedback - thanks for the info on the QF Club.

It seems the MPC is only a FF program, not a lounge membership program.

I need a lunge membership program associated with an airline. Sorry if my original posting was confusing.

Thanks again, Cindy!

Cindy,

You're assuming that all the world functions like Qantas. Well I've got news for you: it doesn't. There is no way you can buy your way into Cathay's lounges (or those of most other airlines) except through bum in seat flying.

There is, however, a Qantas Club in Hong Kong airport.

Yes, if you are flying Cathay, you can use the Business Lounge if you are a Gold QFF member. If you are a Platinum member, you can use the First Class Lounge. This is all part of the "oneworld" alliance.

The Marco Polo Club is the lounge membership, etc. When you sign up with MPC, it automatically registers you with Asia Miles (if you are not already registered).

Marco Polo Club (MPC) is Cathay Pacific's loyalty programme. Cathay's mileage programme is Asia Miles.

Here is how it works:
* You can join MPC as a Green member.
* After 30,000 miles, you become MPC Silver, you will have access to CX J and KA lounges when flying CX and KA.
* When you become Silver, your MPC mileage will be reset, and you have one year to achieve 30000 miles to stay Silver or 60000 miles to become Gold, which is OneWorld Sapphire, and is equivalent to QF Gold...

There are other unofficial ways:
* It was mentioned by someone that, without joining MPC as a Green member, if you fly 30000 miles on CX and KA (not other OneWorld airlines) within 6 months (or a year??), you can get to MPC Silver immediately.
* It you are a QF Gold or Platinum, and if you have a lot of miles on CX flights, you can call MPC and may be comped a Silver or Gold member.

If you wish, you can keep the QF Club membership and start your MPC membership so that when you get to a Silver member, you can get lounge access in CX J lounges. You have to evluate your flying pattern to see what works best for you.

MPC Silver or above can have lounge access, but not Green. In fact, lounge access is not the most important benefit for MPC membership IMHO.

As an aside, and forgive me if I am misinterpreting your alias, you are aware that gay partners cannot get visas to reside in HK simply through being the partner of someone who has an employment visa?
