Planning on travelling to Greece for 8 - 12 days, and would really appreciate any advice on great places to visit.

We would like to go somewhere to experience Greece as it appears in picture books - is this possible? We are travelling with a 3 yr old, so we like trains and direct routes.

Has anyone been there and can recommend any itinerary or places to stay?

Kefalonia, beautiful island, lots of differning things to see and do, Mirtos beach is gorgeous, picture book stuff, Fiskardo delightful and picture book as well. Stay somewhere child friendly and hire a car to see the rest !!

Santorini - the place is absolutely beautiful. You can either fly into the island or else take the overnight ferry and watch the sunrise as you arrive.

Santorini, Mykonos, and Crete

From the main port in Athens you can get a ferry that island hops and stay for a day or 2 on each island. The 4 most popular are Paros, Naxos, Ios and Santorini. Paros was fantastic, Naxos nice for a look around but not much to see, Ios is the party island so maybe not for you this time and Santorini looks just like the picture books. If you do arrive on an island at night don't worry, as the ferry pulls up all the lights will go on and heaps of people will be there to offer you accomodation but make your decision quickly because everyone disappears again pretty quick.
