Question HK Driving License

We are moving to HK in 2 weeks. How do I get a HK driving license? Both my wife and I have full UK licenses.

Also, any good car dealers I can trust, for family runabout for about HK$70K? We'll be living in Sai Kung area so will need a car.

Any horror stories about second hand car dealers???

Help appreciated.

UK Licenses transfer over without any tests.

You'll be able to find plenty of cars in the range that you're looking at. Our Volvo S40, was 4 years old, with 19,500 KM on it and ended up getting it for about $60K.

jimmyssmak will become famous soon enough
but i would say...u gotta be very careful when you get youself a car..esp most secondhand car's mileage has been adjusted intentionally by the car seller. you cant really rely on looking at the mileage and judge how excellent condition of the car. therefore, the good advice would b get yourself a reliable and trustworthly mechanic to inspect the car that u r intented to purchase b4 you go ahead and greeen on any buying contract.

I would say basically anything that u r gonna purchase in HK have to be extremely careful, as I am 100% HK born Hongkonger...i understood this so called "HK culture" - dun think it is a good culture tho very well.

Let me know if you have a problem on getting a good mechanic. My bro got a few good mechanics which is price reasonable and always give customers fair comment.

That's the 1st time I've heard about turning back the odometer.... Oh man, this might be just urban legend, or just a warning for new arrivals to be more careful, but I remember hearing about the poor souls who left a hefty deposit for their 2nd hand car and then never heard back from the private seller. By that time, they learned too late that the HKID was fake as were the references. Buyer beware I suppose.
